How do I become a member of a United Methodist church?

If you have never been baptized, you will prepare for baptism. If you were baptized as an infant or young child and have not made a profession of faith and been confirmed, then you will prepare to reaffirm your baptism when you take the membership vows. If you are a member of another part of the church (such as Baptist, Presbyterian or Lutheran), then you can transfer your membership from that church to a local United Methodist Church. If you are a member of another Christian church that does not transfer membership, you can make a profession of faith and be received as a member. Talk with a United Methodist pastor about becoming a member of The United Methodist Church.The pastorwill be able to answer your questions and help you discern what next steps to take.

Celebrate Recovery

freedom from your hurts, hang-ups and habits

Insecurity, Fear, Anxiety, Depression, Drugs, Alcohol, Divorce, Hypochondria,  Abuse, Procrastination, Overworking, Grief, Perfectionism, Codependency, Lying, Guilt, Anger, Rage, Overspending, Sexual Addiction, Overeating, Being the Child of an Alcoholic – These obstacles and others are the underlying stumbling blocks many of us carry around as we fumble through this thing called life. With Celebrate Recovery, we work together figuring out how to leave such unnecessary baggage on the carousel at the airport. Rising Hope has a long history with the ministry of Celebrate Recovery, of which the most recent iteration launched January 1, 2015. An intern with a heart for, and history of, recovery has come alongside members of the congregation and community to get this life-changing ministry back off the ground. Celebrate Recovery is a safe place to share, ask questions or simply hang out. We address all of life’s hurts, habits and hang-ups. Basically, we deal with anything and everything that hinders one’s growth and relationship with our Higher Power, Jesus Christ. Currently, thirteen people on average attend this service, and most of those people are drawn from within the life of Rising Hope. An effort is being made to reach out to those in the community at large. With Scripture as the foundation of our teachings, Celebrate Recovery provides a space where people can find Jesus and lose their old selves.  Where Jesus is working miracles, perhaps you could be the next miracle.

Music Ministry

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come inot his presence with singing.” (Psalm 100:1,2)

Come and join our musical family that uses their gifts and talents to honor and praise God. There is no audition required in order to be a member of the choir. All that is required is your commitment and dedication. The choir sings every Sunday and at special events throughout the year.

We are committed to building community among our volunteers who love the Lord and enjoy serving Him together. Each weekend brings new opportunities to worship God in new, exciting and creative ways. We’re looking forward to having you as a part of our ministry!

Children’s Ministry

Children will stay in the main church for song and prayer and then be escorted across the hall to the children’s church classroom. Children’s church will last approximately one hour and then return to main church for communion and prayer.

Bilingual Worship

Servicios en Español (Services in Spanish)

The spiritual, emotional, and physical effects of language barriers can be seen on a daily basis at Rising Hope. According to the national census, 37.5% of Fairfax County residents speak a language other than English at home. We are blessed to have Rev. Lydia Rodriguez from Wesley UMC and her husband, Rev. Angel Martinez from Spirit and Life UMC joining Rising Hope in our ministry to the Spanish-speaking community. Angel and Lydia lead noon worship services on the fourth Friday of each month in English and in Spanish. This is an answer to prayer! We have been searching for ways to reach out to the Spanish-speakers that come for community services during the week. In addition to enjoying a bilingual service, we are treated to bi-lingual praise music including performance on the Maracas by José Reyes from Puerto Rico.
